Hooter fishing report - Feb. 5-9
Under cloudy skies, and a bit misty, the water is clear at the Okaloosa Island Pier. In the last few days anglers have been pulling in flounder, pompano and sheepshead. Try live shrimp or an oyster on those sheepshead. Pompano are starting to show up in the surf. Good bait is live shrimp or a sandflea.
A few pompano are showing up in the back of the harbor near the docks. Redfish and sheepshead are still good around the Destin Bridge and the jetties. Live shrimp, fiddler crab or an oyster works well for luring in a sheepshead. Trout can be found in deep water holes near the mouths of the river. Live shrimp or soft plastic grubs work well for luring in the trout.
Boats out bottom fishing are pulling in nice catches of mingo, white snapper, amberine and triggerfish. Boston mackerel or squid on a small hook works best for triggerfish. Other fish coming in from the eight-hour trips are red grouper and amberjack. No reports from offshore right now.
