Blacktip tops out on scales

Blacktip shark, close to breaking record.

Damon Holditch hauled in a 136.2-pound blacktip shark recently while fishing aboard the Gulf-Angler with Capt. Preston Muller — 15 pounds shy of the state record of 152 pounds.

"Damon didn't mess around; he would not pass the rod off even after the one-hour mark," Capt. Muller said.

"He was dead set on bringing the fish aboard himself. Matt Baxter was the first mate and played a crucial role in the tail wrap at the end of the fight. The entire crew of six watched in awe as Damon brought in an almost record-breaking blacktip on 50-pound test line." Pictured from left are Capt. Muller, Holditch and Baxter.
