The Hooters Fishing Report - Aug. 26-30
Under sunny skies the water is clear with less than a one-foot waver rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. In the last couple of days anglers have pulled in bluefish, hardtail, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, bonito, skipjack and blackdrum.
Bay fishing is good right now. Anglers are pulling in speckled trout and redfish. The trout are showing up around the docks and grass beds, while the redfish have been hot around the bridge and pass. Best bait is live bait. Mangrove snapper are hitting good on small live bait using a light leader.
Amberjack, grouper, triggerfish and mingo are being caught on a regular basis. The grouper bite has been good on the inshore and offshore wrecks. Live minnows or butterfly jigs work well on grouper. King mackerel are still making a showing. Try trolling live cigar minnows or a Yo-zuri around the southeast rocks, broken bottom or Timber Holes. Offshore, anglers are catching wahoo and dolphin near the Ozark.
