The Hooter's Fishing Report - Sept. 2-6

Pier/Surf
The water is clear with a one-foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. In the last couple of days anglers have pulled in Spanish mackerel, hardtail, skipjack, bluefish, whiting and tarpon. In the surf, whiting, ladyfish and bluefish are showing up. Try using fresh peeled shrimp for whiting and spoons for ladyfish and bluefish.
Inshore/Bay
Speckled trout are showing up on north side of the bay and redfish near the bridges and pass. Best bait is live bait. Mangrove snapper are hitting good on small live bait using a light leader. Spanish mackerel and bluefish are biting on spoons near the jetties.
Offshore/Bottom
Amberjack, grouper, triggerfish and mingo are being caught on a regular basis. The grouper bite has been good on the inshore and offshore wrecks. Live minnows or butterfly jigs work well on grouper. King mackerel are still making a showing. Try trolling live cigar minnows or a Yo-zuri around the southeast rocks, broken bottom or Timber Holes. Offshore, anglers are catching wahoo near the southwest edge, dolphin and white marlin around the Nipple and swordfish near the Spur at night.
