The water is clear and calm at the Okaloosa Island Pier. In the last couple of days anglers have been catching redfish, whiting, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, flounder and skipjacks. Pompano and whiting are showing up in the surf. Live and frozen sand fleas and shrimp are the top baits.

Big speckled trout are being caught in the bay right now. The bigger the bait, the better the chance of landing a big trout. Redfish are showing up around the Mid-Bay and Destin bridges and under the lights at night around the docks. Light tackle and live shrimp work well. With the cooler temperatures, flounder should start moving in.

Red snapper fishing is officially closed in state and federal waters. Amberjack, grouper, and mingo are being caught every day. The Destin Fishing Rodeo has seen some big amberjack; 93- and 90-pounders hit the docks in the last week. King mackerel and blackfin tuna are picking up near the pass and broken bottom. Offshore, wahoo and yellowfin tuna are showing up on the edges.
