Rodeo Rod and Reel Report - Feb. 3-7

Under cloudy skies and a low fog, the water is clear with a 1-2 foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier. In the last few days anglers have pulled in a few sheepshead. Live shrimp and fiddler crab work well for bait.

Sheepshead is the ticket right now with folks catching them near the jetties, Destin and Mid-Bay bridges. Live shrimp, fiddler crab and oysters work well if you can find them. Redfish are showing around the bridge and look for schools running near the beach. There are still some flounder to be found on the inshore wrecks. Bull minnows, live shrimp or a grub work well for bait.

Before the ice storm last week, the boats out bottom fishing were pulling in big triggerfish along with mingo. Good baits are cut squid or Boston mackerel. Amberjack, rock salmon, red and snowy grouper are also striking. Big pinfish are top baits for grouper and amberjack. Near the oil rigs offshore, yellowfin tuna as well as blackfin are biting.
