Anglers win big in weekend cobia tournaments

Several big cobia hit the docks last weekend with tournaments up and down Destin harbor.

Bringing in the largest cobia and taking first place in the Destin Charter Service Ling-a-Palooza tournament at Fishing Fleet Marina was Heather Browning with a 72.4-pounder caught aboard the No Alibi with Capt. Chris Schofield.

Placing second, and the first cobia weighed in the tournament was a 66.6-pound reeled in by Gil DeShazo on the Outta Line with Capt. Trey Windes.

First place in the aggregate went to the charter boat Un Reel with 163 pounds of cobia.

Capt. B.J. Teems on the Realin Script took second in the aggregate with 146.3 pounds of ling.

Dana Ann and The Defense Rest won in the Calcutta.

The crew aboard the Cotton Patch took first and fourth place in the Crab Cruncher Classic at Harbor Docks with a 77.1 and a 71.9 pounder. They also placed first in the Big Three (aggregate weight) with 201.2 pounds of cobia and took home $87,795 in prize money.

Team Outcast placed second with a 74.5 pound cobia and took home $31,423 in winnings.

No Alibi came in third with a 72.5-pounder worth $3,541.

The Sweet Caroline came in with a 71.7 pound cobia for fifth place. They also placed second in the Big Three with 195.8 pounds of cobia and took home $4,500.

The crew aboard the Reel Worthless placed third in the Big Three with 187.2 pounds of cobia and took home $30,582 in prize money.

Miss B Haven finished in fourth in the Big Three with 183.8 pounds of ling. They took home $30,060 for their efforts.

The Papi pulled in 167.8 pounds of cobia for fifth in the Big Three, worth $6,228 in winnings.
