Local surfers place in state competition

Five competitors from the Eastern Surfing Association North Gulf Florida District, headquartered in South Walton, made it to the finals in the Governors Cup at Ponce Inlet in Volusia County, Oct. 11-12.
The event was an invitational in which all eight ESA districts in the state of Florida were invited to compete in shortboard, longboard, stand-up paddleboard surfing and body boarding with age groups ranging from youth under 12 to adults in their 60’s.
Joe Strouse owner of Hungry Boards placed second in SUP surf open category and fourth in Grandmasters (45-54) longboard category.
Trip Martin placed fourth, Zac Mignot third and Thomas Sims second in the Menehunes (14-and-under) longboard category.
Hargett Martin placed fourth in the Menehunes (11-and-under) shortboard category.
Drake Martin NGFL District Director and Ty Sims NGFL Contest Director also attended the two-day surfing competition.
