It’s all good on the waterfront (PHOTOS)

Nothing unusual here, just plenty of good fishing, good fun and good eating.

For the last couple of weeks, it’s been the usual suspects showing up on the docks, lots of red snapper with mackerel and mingo in the mix.

However, the days to catch a red snapper in federal waters, nine nautical miles out and beyond, are winding down. The last day for those charter boats holding federal permits is July 14.

But until then, as deckhand Pat Meyers once told me on opening day of red snapper season a few years ago, “I wouldn’t want to be one.”

As a matter of fact, anglers on the Silver King with Capt. Alex Hare pulled in a limit of red snapper on Friday.

Capt. T.J. George on High Cotton and his anglers from Alabama came in Friday with a rack of red snapper, with a few king mackerel and Spanish mackerel in the mix.

Louisiana and Kentucky anglers on the Only Way with Capt. Curt Gwin came in with a good catch of king mackerel, scamp, mahi mahi and red snapper.

Capt. Phillip Blackburn on the Sea Fix and his crew filled every nail on the board with kings and red snapper.

Capt. Paul Dale Wagner on the Un Reel came in with a rack full of red snapper and one king mackerel.

Fish-N-Fool with Capt. Casey Weldon at the helm came in from a six-hour trip with red snapper and some huge mingo.

Mackerel was the catch-of-the-day on the SS Enterprise with Capt. Kirk Reynolds. His group pulled in king and Spanish on a four-hour outing.

Texas anglers on the Blue Runner II with Capt. Tommy Carter came in with several red snapper and four king mackerel.

Capt. Stan Phillips and his group on the Destination filled the nails with red snapper, black snapper, king mackerel, mingo and white snapper.

This is just a sampling of some of the fishing that has been happening of late, with an end result of good fun and good eats.
