The Loose Hooker team show off their winning king mackerel, a 41.12-pounder.

Out of a field of 32 boats, Loose Hooker pulled in the winner in the second annual Fudpucker’s Summer Slam held this past weekend on Okaloosa Island.

The crew aboard the Loose Hooker with Capt. Trey Brown reeled in a 41.12-pound king mackerel on day one of the two-day event worth $5,000. They also pulled in the second place king, while Capt. Ken Creel and Kerry Veach on the Mother Dog came in third in the king division. The tournament only paid out for first place.

The ladies with the largest king mackerel was Lee Rogers with a 23.98-pounder caught aboard the Southern Charm and the winning junior angler was Andrew Rynerarson with a 7.7-pound king mackerel.

Capt. Beau Jarrett and crew on the Inappropriate Behavior came in on day one with two mahi mahi but only one took first place in the division, a 14.48-pounder.

Not only did all the boat captains and crew have a big time, the tournament raised more than $2,500 to benefit the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance and local fisherman Matthew Baxter’s recovery fund.

Fudpucker’s has two more tournaments scheduled for the Fall.

This weekend Fud’s will host the Fudpuckin’ Paddleboard Tournament. This is strictly for those fishing from a paddleboard with the biggest fish taking it all. The fish must be legal and any fish may be entered.

On Oct. 16-17, Fud’s will have a Fudpucker’s Best of the Bay Tournament. This event will target speckled trout, redfish, and flounder and also offers money for the “Choctawhatchee Slam.” First place redfish will be worth $1,000, while first place trout and flounder will be worth $500 each. To win the slam, $500, an angler must enter a fish from each speices and the largest aggregate weight will win.

Both tournaments are free to enter and registration is open.
