Take a Kid Fishing Trip canceled
Take a Kid Fishing Trip that was scheduled for Nov. 1 has been canceled.
“The marine forecast is for South winds 13 to 18 knots, seas 3 to 4 feet, and 90 percent chance of thunderstorms. In addition to the poor weather, we are still dealing with varying degrees of red tide, which makes fishing in Choctawhatchee Bay an unattractive option,” said Charles Morgan III in a news release.
“We have had a wonderful run of 20 years of hosting this event without a hitch,” Morgan said.
“While the fishing has naturally had some up and down years in terms of the catch – we have always had decent weather for the event.
“We don’t like to make mistakes, but if we are going to err – we’re going to err on the side of caution. Taking hundreds of children out in the Gulf of Mexico for their first fishing trip is a big project and one that we do not take lightly. We’ve been successful for 20 years – we’re not up to risking the safety of our kids to keep that streak alive.”
The event will not be postponed to another date. However, the kids signed up for this year’s event will be first in line for next year.
“We will accept reservations from Sept. 26-30th for children who signed up this year. Reservations for everyone else will begin on Oct. 3. Next year’s fishing date will be Nov. 6,” Morgan said.
