Destin Lighted Boat Parade sets sail Dec. 13

The 29th annual Holiday on the Harbor Destin Lighted Boat Parade and Fireworks hosted by the Destin History and Fishing Museum and Margaritaville will set sail Dec. 13.

Festivities will be held that afternoon along the harbor and the boat parade will start at 6 p.m. with judging upstairs at Margaritaville. Awards will be presented on the main stage at HarborWalk Village after the fireworks. Boats will start lining up in the harbor between 5-5:30 p.m. The parade can be viewed from docks and restaurants west of Grand Harobr Condominums on the harbor. A firework show, sponsored by HarborWalk Village, will light up the sky at the end of the parade.

The boat parade is open to all boats, commercial, charter and private. Entry fee is $25. There will be awards in 10 categories: private 30-feet and under, private 31 feet and over, charter/commercial boat 30-feet and under, charter/commercial 31 feet and over, tour boat/motorized 50 feet and under, tour boat/motorized 51 feet and over, sailboat 30 feet and under, sailboat 31 feet and over. Prizes will be awarded in each category. An additional award will go to the best overall lighted boat entry.

The city of Destin is sponsoring an award to the baot that best showcases the harbor heritage.

In case of bad weather, the event will be held on Sunday, Dec. 20.
