Fudpucker’s Summer Slam Tournament to benefit local charities

Special to The Log

Fudpucker’s is gearing up for its third annual Summer Slam Fishing Tournament.

Kickoff for the tournament begins with the captain’s meeting at 6 p.m., July 8 at Fudpucker’s on the Bay with a fishing day set for July 9.

Entry is $150 per boat for two anglers. Additional anglers may register for $25 each.

The largest king mackerel brought in will receive 50 percent of tournament proceeds. In addition, there will also be payouts of 25 percent each for the largest mahi mahi and wahoo. Non-cash prizes include a Cold Cock Cooler, fishing rod from Half Hitch Tackle and more will be given out to participants weighing in the largest fish in the following categories: Lady Angler, Junior Angler, First Responder Angler and Military Angler.

A silent auction and raffle will be held to benefit the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance with them receiving 20 percent of tournament entry fees.

Optional Cash Awards or Calcuttas will be available and a portion of all receipts will also benefit the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance.

“Community interest has been amazing and we expect to have a fantastic turnout for this event,” said tournament organizer Chester Kroeger of Fudpucker’s. “Last year we raised over $3,000 to benefit the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance. It is especially rewarding to be able to assist an organization that works diligently to improve our bay and we look forward to increasing our donation this year.”

Fishing can start anytime after the captain’s meeting with weigh-ins at Fudpucker’s on the Bay Saturday afternoon between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Fud’s has 25 boat slips available for boats or fish can be brought to the scales by car if needed.

Following the weigh-ins on Saturday, a fish fry and awards banquet featuring a silent auction and raffle will be held at Fudpucker’s on the Bay.

“This is a fantastic family event and a great way to give back to the local fishing community,” Kroeger said.
