Nathan Powers powers up big king

Nathan Powers shows off the winning king mackerel, a 52.95 pounder, caught aboard the Papi.

Nathan Powers, fishing aboard the Papi, took first place in the Summer Open at Harbor Docks over the weekend reeling in 52.95-pound king mackerel worth $10,028 in total winnings.

The Papi, captained by Kevin Moak, also collected on the Big Three Aggregate with 125.75 pounds of mackerel in the two-day tournament.

Capt. Curt Gwin and the crew aboard the Only Way placed second in the aggregate with 125.15 pounds of mackerel.

Placing second overall in the king mackerel division was Matt Carr with a 47.75-pound mackerel caught aboard the Only Way with Capt. Gwin. His catch was worth $1,734 in winnings.

Third place went to Anita Githens on the Slip A Way with a 43.60 pounder.

Kelly Patton took fourth with a 36.95 pounder caught aboard the Strike Two.

Bill Sanders came in fifth with a 34.40-pound king caught on the Destin Realty.

Largest wahoo, a 25.55 pounder, was pulled in by Rodney Johnson on the Sea Fix with Capt. Phillip Blackburn.

Todd Ackerman, fishing aboard the What Doin?, pulled in the biggest tuna, a 25.20 pounder.

The largest dolphin was reeled in by Brandon Durahm, a 0.60 pounder on Destin Realty.

Top Lady Angler was Anita Githens with her 43.60-pound king mackerel.

Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund the 22nd annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Day and Destin Harvest Projects.
