Flat Dangerous hauls in huge swordfish

Young William Phillips and Will Brooks, dock master for the Swordy Shootout at Boshamps, cart in the winning 330 pound plus swordfish caught aboard the Flat Dangerous.

Out of a field of 14 boats entered, the crew aboard the Flat Dangerous of Destin pulled in more than $35,000 in prize money over the weekend, taking first place in the Swordy Shootout at Boshamps Oyster House located on the Destin harbor.

Henry Ellis, aboard the Flat Dangerous with Capt. George Gill, weighed in a 343.8-pound swordfish to take first place overall. The crew also had a 155.7 pounder to bring their aggregate to 499.5 pounds, worth $38,800 in prize money.

This was the first year for Boshamps to host the four-day tournament.

“I could not be happier with the turnout and incredible fishing for the first year of the tournament,” said Miller Phillips of Boshamps. “We’re already looking forward to next year.”

Capt. Blake Hinely and crew aboard She’s the One took first in the Tuna Division with a 78.7 pounder. Their catch was worth $3,500.

Taking first in the Dolphin Division with a 13-pounder was Capt. B.J. Teems and the group aboard the Makaira.

Capt. Justin Destin and crew aboard the Un Reel won $800 in the Wahoo Division with a 36.7 pounder.
