Almost 300 youth participated in the 25th annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day on Sunday.

The event, sponsored by Harbor Docks Charities, gave youth the chance to fish aboard some of Destin’s finest charter boats with 24 boats participating.

The youth met downstairs at Harbor Docks Restaurant for a breakfast of orange juice and donuts before boarding for a morning of fishing.

Word is the young anglers and their volunteer chaperons caught king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, bonito, mingo and redfish. They also caught a lot of red snapper and triggerfish, which they had to throw back.

All children received a T-shirt, rod and reel and were treated to a family-style fish fry.
