Destin Rodeo elects new officers
The Destin Fishing Rodeo held it‘s annual general meeting at AJ’s Seafood and Oyster House Thursday evening giving folks the opportunity to join in and become members and help promote one of Destin‘s longest running traditions.
More than 60 people showed up for the event and voted on three board members that will serve on the 72nd Rodeo board of directors. They were Jake Brashears, Tina Harbuck and Eric Thrasher.
Brashears will serve as chairman of the board for 2020 and Thrasher will be chairman-elect for 2021.
At the meeting, Rodeo executive director Helen Donaldson gave a report on how the Rodeo went this past year. The month-long event awarded more than $75,000 in cash and prizes and sold more than 6,000 T-shirts, plus awarded more than $5,000 in scholarships for Miss Destin Contestants.
Harbuck, as chairman of the 71st Rodeo, gave a bit of a recap of the Rodeo by numbers. There were 107 charter boats and 184 private boats that fished the tournament. During the 31-days of fishing, 1,093 fish made the big leaderboard, plus 1,300 daily awards. The Rodeo, along with AJ‘s, gave away 1,500 rod and reels to youngsters and 25 youth participated in the Rootin Tootin event at the Okaloosa Island Pier.
Before the night ended, Donaldson recognized all the board members as well as thanked Miss Destin Brooke O‘Keefe for serving.
